Jerrod Carmichael hosted Saturday Night Live with musical guest Gunna after his HBO show Rothaniel and Will Smith’s trauma-inducing Oscars smack of Chris Rock. When you’re 34, it’s hard to believe you’ve already accomplished so much in the world of comedy. While on The Carmichael Show, Jerrod managed to pull off a multi-camera that was both hip and entertaining, a feat many thought unachievable. Love at the Store, 8, and Rothaniel all have the warmth and classiness of a vintage jazz record in their approach to humour. On the Count of Three, which he directed and acted in at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival, was described as “evidence that Carmichael was a filmmaker to be excited about” by The Guardian. SNL scored a coup by signing this talented performer.

Alex, Heidi, and Mikey are the hosts of Fox and Friends on SNL’s monthly Fox News cold open. Brian, portrayed by Mikey, recommends Trump’s new social networking programme Truth Social to his friends. (“As soon as I started the app after downloading it, my phone became really warm.”) Clarence and Ginni Thomas, Kenan and Kate’s guests, drop by to talk about Ginni’s recent legal difficulties and Clarence’s recent illness. As Yoko Ono of the Supreme Court, I take my responsibilities seriously. FaceTimed in as Trump, James Austin Johnson discussed the slap and other current topics. “Hitch has a mighty arm. I’ve known since I was a kid that Hitch had an arm.”” To debunk suspicions that Trump used a burner phone during the January 6 revolt, the Fox & Friends hosts turn to the president himself, who readily admits to using a burner phone in the interview. In order to describe what a “burner phone” was, “I couldn’t even tell you what it looked like.”
Give credit where it’s due, as in: It was brilliant to have Trump FaceTime from bed, and Donald had to hang up because Truth Social was making his phone hot as a beautiful comeback. The chilly open may need a rebranding. James Austin Johnson’s Biden and Trump impersonation dominate the top of the programme in “the James Austin Johnson skit.”
