Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor, two of Bollywood’s brightest stars, tied the wedding in Mumbai on Thursday in an intimate ceremony attended by some of Indian cinema’s greats.
The Bollywood power couple sliced cake and raised a glass to their marriage at the Vastu building, where they each possess private flats. The pair donned Sabyasachi gowns, a renowned brand in India.
On Wednesday, the pre-wedding celebrations started with a traditional Hindu rite known as Ganesh Puja at Kapoor’s Pali Hill mansion. For the wedding ceremonies, the mansion and other properties owned by the Kapoors, including RK Studios, were festooned with soft lights. Additionally, a Mehendi ceremony was held, as is common in Punjabi marriages.
The wedding’s date had been kept secret, with neither celebrity announcing it. However, talk about the impending wedding has been rampant since Tuesday, when photographs of Kapoor’s Mumbai house decked with lights surfaced on social media, CNN affiliate News-18 reports.
Kapoor and Bhatt are also among Bollywood’s highest-paid actors, with the latter ranked ninth – the highest-ranking woman – on Forbes India’s newest Celebrity 100 list, which values their combined earnings in 2019 at about $14 million.
Both stars come from illustrious acting and directing families. Bhatt is the daughter of director Mahesh Bhatt and actress Soni Razdan, while Kapoor is the grandson of Raj Kapoor and the son of actors Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh.
Among those spotted at the wedding were Kapoor’s relatives, actresses Kareena and Karisma Kapoor, and director Karan Johar, who refers to Bhatt as his daughter. Kareena and Karisma were dressed in Manish Malhotra saris.
Ranbir Kapoor came to prominence in romantic comedies like as “Barfi!” and “Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani,” in which he co-starred with Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone. In 2018, he starred as actor Sanjay Dutt in the box office hit “Sanju,” which went on to become one of the highest-grossing films in Indian cinema.
Since his debut in 1999’s “Sangharsh,” Bhatt has acted in numerous successful films, including “Raazi” and “Badrinath Ki Dulhania.” Her 2019 film “Gully Boy” was chosen as India’s submission for the 92nd Academy Awards’ Best International Feature Film category.
