Maksim Chmerkovskiy, His Arrest and Released

Early life

Aleksandr “Sasha” Chmerkovskiy and Larisa Chmerkovskaya gave birth to Chmerkovskiy on January 17, 1980, in Odessa, Ukraine, the Ukrainian SSR. Chmerkovskiy’s younger brother is also a professional dancer, Valentin Chmerkovskiy, who was born in 1986. When asked about his religious affiliation, he said that his father is Jewish, and his mother is Christian.

While attending a school for the arts, Chmerkovskiy’s parents enrolled their son in ballet. Manners and ballroom dancing were part of the curriculum of the school, which aimed to produce young gentlemen and women. Ten-dance competitions, which include ballroom and Latin dances, were an option for him later on in life. Chmerkovskiy also played tennis, soccer, and swimming when he was younger.

A skiing accident fractured his right leg when he was 13 years old, necessitating the insertion of a titanium rod to keep it stable. He was told by doctors that he wouldn’t be able to dance again for the rest of his life and that his chances of doing so were slim.

Brooklyn, New York became home for the family in 1994 when they relocated there. For Chmerkovskiy and his family, the difficulties of migrating included both financial and linguistic ones. Chmerkovskiy had a fresh set of roller blades stolen on his second day in the United States. Additionally, Chmerkovskiy was able to rediscover his love of dancing after his move to the US. At the age of 15, he started working as a dancer at a local Russian restaurant. Chmerkovskiy, who worked as a waiter at a restaurant, believed that winning dance contests would be a chance to get a raise.

Chmerkovskiy was a professional Latin dancer who participated at the highest level in the international competition. To date, Chmerkovskiy and his partner Elena Grinenko have the second-best U.S. and seventh-best global rankings among professional international Latin couples.

Opening Dance Studios

Rising Stars Dance Academy was founded by Chmerkovskiy and his father at the age of 16 on the second storey of a building owned by his father in Ridgewood, New Jersey. Chmerkovskiy said that he selected New Jersey over Brooklyn because of the abundance of dance studios that he detested. Saddle Brook, New Jersey, became the studio’s final location after a series of moves. In 2011, when asked why he chose New Jersey, he said, “I didn’t want my studio to be simply another one in the neighbourhood. When I opened my studio, I wanted it to be in a place where no one had ever seen anything like it before.”

It was in 2001 when Chmerkovskiy’s brother, Valentin, then 16, and Diana Olonetskaya—then 15—became the first American dance duo to win a global junior dance championship. Both Serge Onik and Kiki Nyemchek, who appeared on So You Think You Can Dance and placed fourteenth and fourth, respectively, under the tutelage of Chmerkovskiy.

Chmerkovskiy also owns the “Dance With Me” brand of social and competitive dance schools in addition to Rising Stars. The majority of them reside in the greater New York City region.

Dancing with the Stars

For fifteen seasons, Chmerkovskiy was a professional dancer on Dancing with the Stars. The “bad boy of the ballroom” was a common moniker for him.

Seasons 2–6

In the second season of Dancing with the Stars, Chmerkovskiy was paired with actress Tia Carrere. Their tango was their most successful dance. They finished sixth in the race. ” The next year, he and his singing partner Willa Ford finished sixth. In March 2007, Chmerkovskiy returned to Dancing with the Stars, this time with boxer Laila Ali, for Season 4. They finished in third place in the finals. Second place went to him and Melanie Brown on Dancing with the Stars in Season 5. He apparently informed TV Guide Magazine he would not return to the programme after the season 5 finale, which he subsequently claimed People Magazine was due to stress. Melanie Brown made a cameo appearance on the 100th episode of The Bachelorette, however Chmerkovskiy did not participate in Season 6.

Seasons 7–9

For the show’s seventh season, he was matched with Misty May-Treanor, a two-time Olympic gold medallist in volleyball. After being forced to withdraw in Week 3, Chmerkovskiy and May-Treanor were eliminated from contention. May-Treanor damaged her Achilles tendon while practising for their jive, necessitating surgery. They ended up in 10th position as a result of her withdrawal. For the eighth season of Dancing with the Stars, he was partnered with Denise Richards on Good Morning America on February 9, 2009. They finished 12th overall after being ousted in the competition’s second round. While competing alongside actress Debi Mazar in season nine, he came in fourth place. While Derek Hough was out with an illness during the middle of season 9, Chmerkovskiy paired with Joanna Krupa for one week. Chmerkovskiy and Krupa teamed up to perform an Argentine Tango and engage in the group dance that was inspired by the ’70s decade.

Seasons 10–13

Erin Andrews was Chmerkovskiy’s partner in season 10, which marked his eighth consecutive season on the show. With Chmerkovskiy, Andrews had a solid connection and Chmerkovskiy was protective as she dealt with threats. During the two-hour finals on May 25, 2010, they finished third. Brandy was Chmerkovskiy’s partner in season 11 of Dancing With the Stars. They made it all the way to the championship game, but a fourth-place finish was enough to send them home. Because they were typically among the highest-scoring couples each week, their eviction was seen as a shock. He was matched with Kirstie Alley during Season 12. Seasons 14–18

He was paired with Melissa Gilbert for the 14th season. Gilbert had a moderate concussion while dancing the paso doble in week 4 of the dance competition. Despite her best efforts, she ended up in the hospital and was unable to attend the following night’s results presentation. The couple was declared safe. A muscle was pulled in Chmerkovskiy’s shoulder as well. The pair was eliminated in fifth place four weeks later. Maksim returns to the dance floor with Kirstie Alley for Season 15, an All-Stars season. In the first week, they got a score of 19. Week 3 of the dance competition saw Alley and Chmerkovskiy perform the chachachacha with a total score of 17 points. Alley and Chmerkovskiy received a total of 24. Gilles Marini and Peta Murgatroyd were also ousted in a double elimination in week 8 along with Alley and Chmerkovskiy.

He announced his resignation from Dancing with the Stars in February 2013 and will not be returning for Season 16 of the show. With his brother Val and his partner Zendaya and with Jacoby Jones and his partner Karina Smirnoff on “Len’s Side-By-Side Challenge,” Chmerkovskiy returned to the show in the fifth week of Season 16.

A two-season hiatus from Dancing was revealed by US Weekly prior to the official release of the whole cast. Meryl Davis and Ksenia Chmerkovskiy were matched together. On May 20, 2014, they were declared as the champions, marking Chmerkovskiy’s first victory. They finished Season 18 with the highest average of any dancer on the programme (28.4) and the most perfect marks (6 out of a possible 10) in the competition.

Seasons 23–26

In an interview on Good Morning America on August 25, 2016, Chmerkovskiy announced his return to Dancing With the Stars after the release of a supposedly fresh picture of him in costume for the competition. After winning season 18 of Dancing with the Stars, Chmerkovskiy returned to the professional ranks in season 23. ABC verified Chmerkovskiy’s partnership with Amber Rose on August 30, when the cast was officially unveiled. This team finished 9th in the tournament and was eliminated in week 6.

Chmerkovskiy made it clear after his elimination in Season 23 that he had no intention of returning for Season 24. Chmerkovskiy and his fiance Peta Murgatroyd made the decision to return to acting professionally in February of 2017. Heather Morris, an actress, was his co-star in the film. Chmerkovskiy, on the other hand, was sidelined for four weeks owing to an injury. The 8th-place finishers Morris and Chmerkovskiy were eliminated after achieving a flawless 40 in week 6. Season 25 of Dancing with the Stars saw the return of Chmerkovskiy and the pairing of Vanessa Lachey. During the seventh week of the competition, they were ousted in a double elimination and finished seventh. Chmerkovskiy revealed in an interview on April 5th, 2018, that he was completely done competing in DWTS as a professional.

Personal life

Although Chmerkovskiy speaks Russian, he is fluent in Ukrainian. When Chmerkovskiy first arrived in the United States, he didn’t speak a word of English. Reading street signs in New York City is how he believes he learnt the language. Fort Lee, New Jersey, is home to Chmerkovskiy’s primary residence. In 2009, he was engaged to fellow DWTS participant Karina Smirnoff, a Ukrainian. DWTS pro Peta Murgatroyd, whom Chmerkovskiy started dating in 2012, dissolved their relationship in 2013 after 10 months. In October 2014, Chmerkovskiy and Murgatroyd reconnected. On December 5, 2015, Chmerkovskiy proposed to Murgatroyd when she was onstage during Sway: A Dance Trilogy in Miami, Florida. Shai Aleksander Chmerkovskiy was born on January 4, 2017 and his parents, Chmerkovskiy and Murgatroyd, married on July 8, 2017 on Long Island, New York.

Maksim Chmerkovskiy Arrested And Released In Kyiv During Russian Invasion, Planning To Leave Country

He was imprisoned and freed in his own Ukraine as Russia was encroaching on Ukraine, and now Maksim Chmerkovskiy is planning to depart Kyiv.

Today, in a five-minute Instagram video, Chmerkovskiy informed his fans that he was leaving Kyiv, where he’s been shooting for World of Dance UA, and would be crossing the border into Poland, most likely. In the cellphone footage, Chmerkovskiy can be heard saying, “There’s a lot of fighting around.” “The streets are full with lunatics. “I was arrested at one time, but it was all right, I promise.”

As far as Ukraine is concerned, Chmerkovskiy’s arrest was “probably the least distressing event in this entire process,” but “for me it was simply a reality check… a weird reality checks.” He didn’t go into any more information concerning the arrest itself.

In order to get out, he adds, “I’m going to attempt to go near to the border.” Peta Murgatroyd and Chmerkovskiy have a 5-year-old kid together, and they are also DWTS pros. Los Angeles is where they reside.

As Chmerkovskiy puts it, “I’m simply trying to remain focused.” He adds, “I have alternatives. Unfortunately, I have more alternatives than most individuals. Although it makes me apprehensive, I’m certain that everything will work out just fine. “Well, I’m sure it’ll be OK.”

Chmerkovskiy encourages his supporters not to “panic” if he doesn’t return to social media quickly. “Please don’t be alarmed if I vanish for a short period of time.” Despite being in contact with his wife, brother, and parents, the professional dancer says he can’t right now reply to friends, family members who live far away, and even followers.

“Unfair treatment” at the Ukraine-Poland border has prompted Chmerkovskiy to speak out. Even though he doesn’t go into specifics, Chmerkovskiy seems to be alluding to allegations of racism and unjust treatment made by African nationals fleeing Ukraine. “Where there’s smoke, there’s fire,” adds Chmerkovskiy of the alleged prejudice.

To him, “unfair treatment” is anything less than the best care possible.

During the Russian invasion of Ukraine in March 2022, Chmerkovskiy revealed that he had escaped to Poland. In addition, he recorded the invasion on social media and shared it with his followers.
