Two Omicron cases detected in Karnataka

In India’s first, two cases of the new variant Omicron have been detected in Karnataka. Both the patients are males aged 66years and 46 years. The first being a South African national and the second being a Bengaluru doctor with no travel history. Both of them are fully vaccinated.

They have reported mild symptoms. Their primary and secondary contacts are traced and being tested as well. The South African national had landed in India on 20th November. During the test at the airport, he was tested positive and was isolated in a hotel. After two days, his samples were sent for Genome Sequencing. After getting his second test done at a private lab, where he tested negative, he left for Dubai on 27th November. All of his primary and secondary contacts tested negative.

The doctor working in a hospital on Bannegrhatta Road tested positive on 22nd November. He reported Covid like symptoms and got himself tested. All his primary and secondary contacts were tested too.5 contacts of the Bengaluru doctor also tested positive which include two of his family members and a colleague. Their samples have also been sent for genome sequencing. It is assumed that he contracted the infection from a conference that he attended on 20th November.

Chief Minister Bommai said that “Our duty is now to track and trace such strains and their contacts wherever it’s found. We are already tracking and tracing international travellers”
