Tamil Nadu adds 33 Omicron cases in a day

Omicron spreads three times faster than the Delta variant. In a massive surge across the country, various states are recording new cases every day. Tamil Nadu government confirmed 33 new cases of the Omicron variant. 26 cases were reported from Chennai alone.

This announcement came from the Ma Subramanian, the Health minister of the state. The contacts are being traced. The government has urged people to strictly follow the Covid appropriate behaviour. The government plans to carry out a mass vaccination drive on 26th December. With this the government plans to target 93 lakh people who are eligible for the second dose.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare informed today that Omicron has been detected in 16 states and UTs. The total number of cases detected in the country is 271.

The Government stated on Tuesday about the high transmissibility of the new variant. The Government has written a letter to all the states and union territories to activate ‘war rooms’. The letter advised the states to implement interventions such as night curfews, regulation of gatherings in functions, high testing and surveillance.

Many states gave put restrictions on New Year celebrations. Some states have put a cap on the number of people allowed for social gatherings.
