A new study by Centres for Disease Control, US examined 1.2 million deliveries from March2020 – September 2021 and came to this conclusive study.

With advance in medical science, still birth is a rare phenomenon. The study found that 1.26% of 21,653 women with Covid experienced a stillbirth while 0.64% women without  Covid did. The risk for stillbirth became higher with the prevalence of Delta variant. 2.7% women with Covid had stillbirth during the time when the delta variant was dominant.

The previous research on the topic had suggested that the potential cause for this phenomenon could be inflammation or a decreased flow to the placenta. Chronic high blood pressure, heart injury, separation of placenta from the uterus, poor blood flow or a life threatening lung injury are the other anticipated causes.

Dr Denise Jameison , Chief of Gynecology and Obstretics at Emory healthcare said that “The take home message is the importance of vaccination for pregnant women at this point of pandemic with Delta circulating”.
The Centres for Diseases Control encouraged pregnant and breastfeeding women and women planning a pregnancy to be vaccinated, but the masses show resistance. Pregnancy has been listed as the list of heath conditions that increase the risk of severe disease.

Studies even indicate that pregnant women are more likely to require a hospital admission if they acquire infection.
