Russian one shot vaccine Sputnik Light would be launched in India by December as told by, Kiril Dmitriev, CEO of Russian Direct Investment Fund. Sputnik Light is the second Russian vaccine to be approved by DGCI (Drugs Controller General of India).
This vaccine has been developed by Russian Ministry of Health, RDIF and The Gamaleya National Research Centre of Epidemiology and Microbiology.
Dr. Reddy’s laboratory (which is the sole distributor of the vaccine in India) is in talks with the drug regulators in India and suggesting that Sputnik light should be used as a booster dose. However, Indian Government is still in a dilemma about the introduction of the booster dose.
Around 28,000 subjects in Moscow were administered Sputnik light. The vaccine showed 70% efficacy. The Sputnik Light uses the recombinant adenovirus to carry the code for the spike protein.
The possible cost of the vaccine is not approved yet but speculations are that it would be around $75(Rs750).
One shot vaccine is authorised in more than 15 countries and the registration is still under progress in more than 30 countries, according to RDIF
