Sec 144 imposed in Maharashtra amid rising Omicron numbers

Section 144 has been imposed in Maharashtra for Saturday and Sunday. This has happened because Maharashtra has reported maximum number of omicron cases till now.

Rallies, morchas, processions of any kind are prohibited for the weekend. The order shall come into force from 12.01 am on 11th December and will remain operational till 12th December midnight.

The violators would be punished under section 188 of the Indian Penal Code.

This decision was also taken to maintain a law and order situation in the city. There were incidences of violence in Amravati , Nanded and Malegaon.

In a statement issues by DCP S Chaitnya mentioned that “Any person contravening this order shall be punishable under section 188 of IPC and other legal provisions as applicable”.
