Karnataka imposes fresh restrictions amid Omicron threat

Chief Minister B S Bommai imposed a list of fresh restrictions over the rising Omicron scare. He even requested the centre to impose a ban on passengers coming from South Africa, Hong Kong and Botswana.

He said that “a new strain of the Covid -19 has appeared which is mainly seen in South Africa, Hong Kong and Bostwana. European nations have imposed restrictions and the World health Organisation has also raised an alarm against this new variant by calling it a matter of concern”.

 Meanwhile, he has imposed the following restrictions in the state:

  • RT-PCR mandatory for those arriving from Kerala.
  • Double vaccination also mandatory for people travelling from Kerala into the state.
  • Testing mandatory for the international passengers. They can leave if they test negative for the virus.
  • If found positive, the sample would be sent for genomic sequencing. Patients would be admitted to separate isolation facility.
  • For travellers arriving form no risk nations, around 5 % random people would undergo the testing.
  • Seminars, conferences , academic events etc stand postponed for two months.
