A lot of research has been done around the world about the vaccines and their efficacy against the new Covid variant. It has been noted that all the vaccines around the world offer no protection against the new strain.
Having said that,it cannot be ignored that the vaccines do provide significant protection against severe illness by the omicron variant.
A study also suggested that Pfizer and Moderna when administered as booster doses provide significant protection against the virus. These vaccines work on the mRNA of the virus. However, all the other vaccines work on eliciting an immune response in the body.
These vaccines are unfortunately not available in many parts of the world.
Recently, United Kingdom performed a case study to calculate the effectiveness of Pfizer and Astrazeneca against Omicron variant. Recently many people who have been vaccinated with two doses are getting infected with the new variant. The study collected the vaccination data from National immunisation Management System (NIMS).
The study concluded that two doses of vaccines offer limited or no protection against the symptomatic cases of Omicron. The protection is much more after the inoculation of a booster dose
