Omicron: Omicron tally in India reached 1,431. Maharashtra has the highest caseload with 454 new cases followed by Delhi at 351. Tamil Nadu is third worst affected state with 118 cases followed by Gujarat which has 115 cases. Kerala has 109 Omicron cases.
Omicron variant has been found in 23 states in India.
Daily Covid cases: India is seeing a massive spike in Covid cases since the past few days. While the new infections reported yesterday were 16,764, there were 22,775 fresh infections in the last 24 hours. The capital reported nearly 1800 cases. Maharashtra recorded 8,067 fresh infections in the last 24 hours. The positivity rate is 2.44%.The deaths reported were 406. The active caseload is 1,04,781. The recovery rate is 98.4%.
Vaccine registration opens for children between 15-18 years: India opened registration for Covid vaccination for 15-18 years old. Union Minister Mansukh Mandviya said “If the children are safe, then the future of the country is safe. I request family members to register the eligible children for vaccination”
Samples and tests conducted: ICMR stated that 1,110855 samples were tested on Friday.
Vaccination status: Over 1.45 billion doses have been administered till now.
