Even though India is witnessing a decline in the number of daily Covid cases, Union Health Minister asked 11 states and 2 union territories to ramp up their testing.

These states and territories being Nagaland, Manipur, Maharashtra, Kerala, Mizoram, Sikkim, Goa, Manipur , Punjab, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh .

“While there has been a significant decline in the new cases with 10,195 average daily cases reported in the week ending 22nd November, it has been observed that there has also been a decline in weekly testing rates “Health secretary Rajesh Bhushan said in a letter sent to these states and the UTs.

The letter further said that “With a majority of countries seeing multiple covid cases in recent times and a few developed countries are facing even fourth and fifth wave despite high levels of Covid vaccination, there is a need for continued vigil given the unprecedented and contagious nature of the disease”

Besides this, the Centre also asked the sates to keep a check on prevalence of respiratory distress symptoms, influenza like illness and severe acute respiratory infection with the onset of cold weather and the increased pollution levels.

The centre urged the states to keep a check on clustered cases for future containment of that zone
