Covid tally rises in India, 16,764 new cases in the last 24 hours, Omicron tally rises to 1270

The Omicron cases in India crossed 1000 mark. The cases all over the country have started rising at a massive rate. Delhi and Maharashtra are recording maximum Omicron cases. With 16,764 new cases, the active caseload of the country stands at 91,361.

According to the Union Health Ministry, there were 1270 Omicron cases from 23 states and UTs. 374 patients have been discharged.

India is witnessing a spike in daily Covid cases. The cases saw a spike for the third consecutive day. Many states have started imposing strict restrictions amid New Year Celebrations.  New Delhi has been reporting huge number of cases since 3-4 days. The Capital has ordered closure of schools, colleges and gyms. The restaurants and clubs can function with 50% capacity.

Maharashtra reported 5,368 new cases in 24 hours and Delhi reported 1313 new infections.

There were 1,250,837 Covid tests done yesterday.

Centre has written to states to take immediate measures to curb the spread.

Over 1.44 billion doses have been administered in India. About 90% of the adult population has been administered with the first dose.
