The emergency approval has been granted for Covaxin for kids By Subject Expert Committee .This vaccine can be used for kids aged 2-18 years. Covaxin is an indigenous vaccine made by Bharat Biotech.
What is an emergency approval?
The vaccine is still in the last phase clinical trial. An emergency approval for a drug or vaccine is issued in case of a life threatening situation as COVID. While the approval has been granted, the vaccine has to yet undergo a few trials and then it might be available for public use. The vaccine has shown great efficacy in the trial period.
The festive season might bring a spark in COVID cases. Schools have also reopened in many areas. There has been anticipation about third wave having a deadly effect on children. Many states like Maharashtra, Karnataka and Kerala have reported quite a few cases of COVID infections in children. While around 4 % of children were affected in the first wave, this number was around 10-15 % during the second wave.
