India has been reporting less than 20,000 cases per day since a few days now. The new infection rate is low and approximately 99 crores Indians have been vaccinated with at least one dose. There has been no new Covid strain as well.
Earlier the experts had predicted that India would witness a third wave around Oct-Nov. The latest study by experts suggests that there is absence of virus mutations or any new strain. The experts suggest that with a high vaccination rate and a massive number of people getting infected during the second wave, Indian population could have developed herd immunity.
This could mean that there may be no third wave or even if there is any, that would be very mild.
However senior doctors and virologists suggest that India is witnessing festive season and large gatherings, which could be lead to spread of the viral infection. So, we should not let our guard down. The cases are on a decline and hopefully the trend should continue but we should be very careful to avoid the arrival of a third wave.
Many countries have witnessed more than two waves already
