Pfizer’s drug ‘Paxlovid’ has been found effective. The Pfizer company says that its antiviral Covid drug ‘Paxlovid’ reduces the chances of hospitalization or death of an infected patient by 89 percent. It differs from other treatment methods and drugs that have been used since the outbreak of the pandemic in that it gives the patient the opportunity to be treated at home with a capsule and a pill. Paxlovid is a combination of two different medicines. In this, the anti-HIV drug RITONAVIR (in capsule form) and the experimental drug PF-07321332 (in pill form) are given. RITONAVIR protects body against the metabolism of PF-07321332. It breaks down in the body and ensures that sufficient PF 07321332 reaches the virus. PF-07321332 is a so called ‘protease inhibitor’ which blocks the activation of a vital enzyme (protease) and prevents SARS-CoV2 from spreading. The trial included adults who were in the high-risk category but were not in the hospital. Each infected had at least one other disease with the risk of Covid being serious.
