A report from Mumbai has came where atleast 29 MBBS students from King Edward Memorial (KEM) Medical College Students test positive for COVID-19, out of which 27 students were fully vaccinated against the disease.
Out of infected, 2 students who tested COVID-19 positive has been admitted to Seven Hills Hospital in Mumbai for treatment while the other students who are asymptomatic, have been asked to quarantine. And an investigation is still underway.
“It is still unclear how the students contacted the viral disease. It may have spread due to some cultural and sports event held in the college” said City Mayor Kishori Pednekar.
Out of the infected students, 23 are second-year MBBS students while 7 are first-year MBBS students, as confirmed by officials.
Other students of the college are also being tested now, with 200-250 Covid tests being conducted every day. There are total 1,100 students pursuing MBBS course in the College.
Several colleges and schools have started opening up as coronavirus cases continue to decline and vaccinations pick up pace.
And with these data reports Standard Operation Procedure (SOPs) for reopening of schools in the city from October 4 was announced by the Mumbai Mayor.
And the reports are coming of cluster infections day after the announcement.
The city has reported 527 new cases and 6 deaths in past 24 hours, which has exceeded 500 once again after falling during previous two days below to 400.
This week, a residential school in Bengaluru became a COVID-19 cluster after 60 of its nearly 500 students tested positive. Two were found to be symptomatic and the school has been shut till October 20.The infected students have been isolated in the school premises only.
