Globally, the discussion of applying a booster (third) dose of the Covid vaccine is gaining momentum. At the same time, in the context of India, experts say that this would be an ideal situation only if the majority of the population is fully immunized. Immunologist Satyajit Rath believes that it is too early to plan the third dose in the country at this time. He said that our priority should be to give both the necessary doses of vaccine to all Indians, Immunologist Vinita Bal has also agreed with the point. These scientists believe that the idea of giving additional doses of vaccine on a case-by-case basis to vulnerable people already suffering from a serious illness may be considered. Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) Director General Balram Bhagava said earlier that giving a booster dose is not the main topic at the moment and the first priority is to administer two doses of the vaccine.
However, India has not yet started administering the third dose of the vaccine, but there are reports that some health workers and political leaders in Mumbai have administered the third dose of the Covid vaccine.
