The Paralympics going on in Tokyo gave total 12 medals to India. The 12th medal has been grabbed by Avani Lekhara in women’s shooting.
Who is Avani Lekhara?
She is a para shooter who is also a first ever Indian Woman to grab 2 medals in same game.
She’s just 19 years old born on 8th November 2001 in Jaipur, Rajasthan.
Which game she represents?
She represents Indian Sports Shooting Event(s). She is an Air Rifle player in standing SH1 event. She has been Coached by Suma Siddharth Shirur who is the national high performance coach of the junior rifle team and has been a key influence behind the success of Tokyo Paralympics gold medal.
About her career :-
Avani began her shooting in 2015, inspired by former Olympic champion Abhinav Bindra and has since won several national and international titles. She has competed in the 2018 Asian Para Games. She won India’s first gold medal at the 2020 Summer Paralympics and currently became World number 5 in Women’s 10m Air Rifle standing SH1 . With a score of 249.6 points in the final event, the young shooter set a Paralympic record and tied the world record.
Reason to become a shooter:-
Avani is having a complete paraplegia due to an accident in 2012 at the age of 11. Her father encouraged her to join sports, training in archery but moving to shooting in which she found her true passion and with all these she currently studies law in Rajasthan, India as an academy background.
Overview on Avani’s medals :-
The first medal she grabbed is gold and became the first woman to grab it.
She grabbed Women’s 10m Air Rifle standing SH1 (World Shooting Para Sports Rankings) and today she confirmed Bronze for country in 50m Air Rifle 3 positions SH1.
Performance of Avani Lekhara :-
1) After kneeling position round she grabbed 149.5 points at 4th position.
2) After prone position round she slipped to 6th position.
3) After that she gave an amazing comeback in standing position ending the competition at 3rd position.
NOTE :- Avani is now all set to grab the third medal for county on 5th September in shooting range.
