Dr N K Arora, Chairman of the country’s Covid task Force has said that “A comprehensive policy on additional Covid vaccine for immunocompromised people and booster dose will be drawn up over the next two weeks”. He mentioned that the new variant cases are rising with a very fast pace and this calls for an additional dose.

An additional dose is only given to people who have problems with their immune system even after the primary dose. A booster dose is given after administration of both the primary doses.

The policy would soon be formulated by the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (NTAGI). There could be a policy on vaccination of children as well. D N.K Arora said that our labs are working to check the effectiveness of the vaccine as far as the new variant is concerned.

United Nations and many European countries are already rolling out booster doses foe their citizens. These need to be administered 6months after the second vaccination dosage.
