The dangers of mental health epidemic are increasing during the pandemic of Corona virus. For this our health system has to be ready.
Some key points leading to increased stress :-
• Anxiety and depression have increased rapidly due to existing problems like Covid-19 deaths, lockdown, loss of employment. In most cases, this anxiety may not affect daily activities or go away after the depression is over. However, in some cases, it is possible that a mental health problem can affect daily life or lead to suicidal thoughts. In this case, the patient needs immediate treatment. For this a doctor should be contacted immediately.
• It is possible that there are many types of anxiety disorders with Covid-19. According to doctors, Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD, which includes nervousness,Irritability, poor concentration, sleep disturbances etc.), panic disorders, phobias like extreme fear of crowds etc. are likely to increase.
• With this there is a possibility that there has been an increase in the cases of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) of Covid-19. In the current circumstances, the chances of health workers to fall prey to this disease are high.
• Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) cases may increase due to Covid-19 and the chances of this disorder can be seven to nine per cent higher in areas most affected by Covid-19.
• There has been an increase in the cases of suicide during Covid-19 worldwide. The risk of suicide has increased due to severe covid infection, loss of family members, unemployment, work load, pressure of holding the same position and pre-existing mental illness etc.
