- Sleep right: A good mattress and right sleeping position are very important for the health of your spine. You should have a firm mattress to support your back. Sleeping on your stomach puts pressure on the spine, sleeping sideways is not very healthy either.
Sleeping on your back with pillows under your knees comforts your spine and relaxes the back muscles as well. Turn your mattress upside down every six months.
- Try to keep your back straight: Take care of your posture while you sit or stand. This would help you keep your spine in its natural position.
- Avoid lifting heavy objects: Lifting heavy objects puts strain on your back. So avoid lifting heavy objects.
- Exercise regularly: Exercising regularly increases the blood flow and also keeps the muscles in shape. Leg lifts and wall squats are good for the back. Various Yoga poses are specifically designed to keep your back in shape.
- Take breaks in between work: If you have a sitting job. Avoid sitting for long hours. Take breaks in between and stretch your back and neck at frequent intervals. Chose the right chair at work.
- Get the right footwear: Yes you heard it right. Good shoes provide good base that helps to keep the spine the body in perfect alignment.
- Take massages: Your back is going to love a good massage. A massage for the back would help you loosen the tightened up muscles and tissues. There would be increased blood flow. Besides this, your body would feel relaxed and it would ease out your stress.
