The most common symptoms seen in children who have been infected with Covid are fever, headache, and cough. The symptoms may vary from those of adults. Whereas adults have shown symptoms of low-grade fever, children show high-grade fever in the range of 103-104 degrees Celsius.
Though children have shown good recovery and there have been few fatalities associated with this age group but Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children. MIS-C Is a serious condition that has affected some children and in this condition organs such as lungs, heart, blood vessels, kidneys get inflamed. This could be a serious complication and hence it’s necessary that we take due precautions.
With no vaccination available for children, it becomes mandatory that extra care should be taken to keep them safe from the virus.
How can children take care?
- Teach them about their personal hygiene: Educate your children about maintaining good oral hygiene. Explain to them the importance of washing hands before touching their face or eyes. Frequent washing and sanitising their hands is a basic thing that would help them keep the disease away.
- Wear masks: Children should be made to wear masks whenever they step out of the house. Children diligently follow the instructions. Help them develop this habit of wearing mask as soon as they step out.
- Restrict your outings: Children should stay at home as much as possible. A few outings can be planned with kids at open and less crowded places.
- Restricting visitors at house: Any visitor could carry the risk of the virus, so you should restrict the number of visitors in your house.
- Keep sanitising the surfaces: Children keep touching random things in the house. Scientists have proved that COVID virus latches to various surfaces so keep sanitising the surfaces in the house.
- Spend time with them indoors: COVID is hard on children. With no school and friends around, children are having a difficult time too. So spend time with them and keep them engaged indoors.
