Q) Where is Scrub typhus found?
Ans – These scrub typhus are more commonly found around hilly areas, forests and fields. Even in cities, there is a danger of being bitten by this scrub typhus near wild plants or dense grass during the rainy season. In such a situation, it is very important to keep cleanliness around.
Q) How does scrub typhus spread?
Ans – According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), it was caused by a bacteria named Orientia Tsutsugamushi. This bacteria spreads to people when they are bitten by infected chiggers (larval mites). This disease is very dangerous, because if it is not treated on time, then the lives of the infected can also be killed.
Q) What are the symptoms :-
Ans – Symptoms in scrub typhus appear within 10 days of being bitten by chiggers (larval mites). Its symptoms are:-
▪️ high fever (102-103 degrees Fahrenheit),
▪️ runny nose,
▪️headache,
▪️body and muscle pain,
▪️irritability,
▪️rashes on the body.
▪️A blister-like black scab-like mark appears at its bite site.
👉 If not treated in time, the disease can become serious and take the form of pneumonia.
Q) How is it identified and treated?
Ans – The disease is identified by looking at the bite marks from the scrub typhus and through blood tests, CBC count and liver function tests are done for confirmation.
ELISA test and immunofluorescence test detect scrub typhus antibodies.
Treatment:- For this, the course of medicines runs for 7-14 days. The dosage of antibiotics is decided according to the severity of the disease. During this, patients should take less fried and liquid diet. Doctors also give preventive medicine once a week to those with weak immunity or people whose disease is spread around the house.
