On the auspicious occasion of Christmas, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation over the rising Omicron scare and made a few announcements regarding the vaccination in the country.

The three announcements of significance are:

  • Vaccination for children in the age group of 15-18 years from 3rd January onwards.

This age group covers the children from class 10th class onwards whose schools have started in many places. This would provide protection to the children.

  • Booster dose for the health and frontline workers: The Prime minister addressed this as the “precautionary dose” which would be available from 10th January for all the health and the frontline workers.

The gap in between the booster and the second dose should be 9months.

  • Elders above 60 years with co-morbidities can take the precautionary dose on advice of the doctor and upon production of a certificate by their doctor.

Prime Minister requested all the citizens to follow Covid appropriate behaviour.

It is estimated that there are around 10 crore children in the 15-18 years age who would be eligible for the vaccination.

The data further suggests that around 96lakh heath workers are fully vaccinated and 1.03 crore have taken their first dose.

On the other hand around 1.68 crore frontline workers have been fully vaccinated and 1.83 have received their first dose.
