A study conducted by the Oxford University has found out that a booster dose of Covishield vaccine is effective in providing protection against the new variant.

Covishield has been developed by Oxford university and Pharma company Astrazeneca . It is being manufactured by Serum institute of India also.

The results of the study showed that people who received a booster dose of the Astrazeneca vaccine were able to neutralise the Omicron variant after a month of inoculation. The antibodies in such individuals were higher than the individuals who had contracted the disease. The trials even showed that the third booster dose given 6 months after the second dose led to a six fold increase in the antibody.

Covishield accounts for 85% of all the vaccine given in India.

Moderna and Pfizer have come up with a similar study wherein they have shown that a booster dose has provided effective protection to individuals. Although the protection offered is less as compared to that against the delta variant.

Meanwhile Europe is battling a massive rise in the cases every day. UK reported more than 1lakh cases for two consecutive days. Spain, France and Germany are also recording high numbers.
