Around 99 students and faculty members at Dharwad Medical College have tested positive for coronovirus. The total tally has now reached 281.The District Collector of Dharwad, Mr. Nilesh Patil said that “This tally may increase as 1822 test results are awaited”.
Out of 281, only six patients have mild symptoms, rest all are asymptomatic. They have all been quarantined and provided treatment.
Earlier 66 students of SDM college of Medical Sciences were found to be Covid positive .The students had attended a function on 17th November. Hence, the district administration decided to test students, staff and all the primary contacts of the positive patients. On Friday, 116 more tested positive and the tally climbed up to 118.
All the patients have shown mild symptoms as almost all of them have been fully vaccinated. All the institutions in the radius of 500m near the college have been closed till Sunday as a precautionary measure.
In another incidence, 33 students and s staff have also tested positive at a private boarding school in Whitefield.
Karnataka had 402 fresh cases and 6 deaths as reported on Friday.
