While the rest of the world witnesses a decline in Covid cases, Europe witnesses a sharp rise in the cases again.

According to a data by European Union, around 60% of the population of the European Economic area has received two doses. Recently the cases have been rising in Eastern Europe and major parts of Russia.  Germany, France, Britain and Netherlands are also witnessing a rise in the cases.

Even though the deaths and hospitalisation are less than the last year, still the rising number of cases is a cause of worry.

Experts are anticipating that the rising number of cases is because of :

Uneven vaccination

Waning immunity after the second dose

Relaxation of restrictions

While the main cause of infection is the delta virus, there have been a lot of reported cases of delta plus variant.

Here is what countries are doing to curb the situation:

Germany which saw a sudden spike in cases has taken some strict measures as compulsory mask wearing for all and social distancing. Netherlands has announced a three week partial lockdown. Restaurants and shops have to be closed early. Norway and Italy have decided to administer booster dose and follow Covid appropriate behaviour. Iceland has also capped the number of people at public gatherings.
Most of the European nations have started measures to contain the situation.
