United States has decided to open their air and land borders to fully vaccinated people. The country has finally eased the travel restrictions imposed in March 2020. This would allow people from more than 20 countries to travel. The ban was out by former US President Donald Trump and it was continued by his successor Joe Biden to contain the spread of Covid virus.

What would be the requirements for travel?

For air travel

  • Valid Vaccination Certificate
  • Covid testing three days prior to travel: Anybody above 2 years would have to get a negative Covid test report before entering the country, despite being vaccinated.
  • Airlines would start a contact tracing system
  • Children under 18 years with vaccinated adults are exempted from the vaccine criteria
  • All the vaccines accepted by US Food and Drug administration and WHO would be accepted for entry by air.

The land travel will open in two phases:

From Monday: Vaccine certificate would be required for people travelling for “Essential” and “Non -essential “purpose.

Unvaccinated people would be allowed only for “Essential trips” as they have been since the past year and a half.

A negative Covid test would be required for both vaccinated and non vaccinated people

In the second phase that starts in January, all the passengers must be fully vaccinated no matter what their reason of travel is.

This comes as a relief to thousands of people who have not been able to travel due to the restrictions .
