Infections on a rise among fully vaccinated people in UK

The cases are on a rise in UK since a past few weeks. The death toll remains lower than the last year. The average cases being reported everyday are above 35000.

Experts believe this could be due to:

  • The restrictions were eased out soon
  • The uneven vaccination system
  • The immunity waning off

The recent trend has shown that fully vaccinated people in the age group of 40-50 are getting infected. UK had rolled out its vaccination program in Dec 2020. About 70% percent of people received their first dose by 1st July. The vaccination program did take a slow pace after that. UK is also offering a booster dose to people above 50 years and high risk group as well. Approximately 79.5% of people above 12 years of age have been vaccinated with both the doses as of 31st October.

Presently the rate of infection is high in Europe. It is accounting for 192 new cases per 10,000 people. While the major caseload remains of the delta variant, delta plus variant cases have also been on a rise. The government had reported 7521 cases of AY.4.2 till 27th October.

The health authorities are urging the government to strictly enforce the Covid appropriate behaviour like wearing masks and social distancing.
