Government of India and The World Bank sign $40million health project for Meghalaya

The Government of Meghalaya, the Government of India and World Bank signed a $40million health project for the state of Meghalaya on 28th October ,2021. This project would aim to improve the health quality services in the state. This would also help the state handle any future health emergencies such as Covid-19.

The finance Ministry in a statement said that “All 11 districts of the state will benefit from the project. It will also benefit health sector staff at the primary and secondary levels by strengthening their planning and management capabilities and building their clinical skills. The project will enable women to better utilise healthcare services at the community level”.

This joint project was signed by Rajat Kumar Mishra , Additional Secretary Department of Economic Affairs, ,Ministry of Finance(on behalf of Central Government) Ramkumar S, Joint Secretary , Deparment of Health and Family Welfare( On the behalf of Meghalaya Government) and Junaid Ahmad ( On the behalf of the World Bank).

What would be the main areas of focus of this project?

The main target areas would be:

  • Improve the quality of health services via certification and better human resources.
  • Enable access to medicine and diagnostics especially to the poor and vulnerable.
  • Expand the coverage of Meghalaya’s health insurance system
  • To invest in Infection prevention and management of the biomedical waste.
