Covid cases rise in Bengal after Durga Puja

There is a sudden spike in the number of daily reported Covid cases after Durga Puja celebrations. 443 new cases were reported on 16th October while 867 new cases were reported on 20th October. Kolkata witness the maximum number of cases. The number has almost doubled for the state.

As on now the positivity rate has increased to 2.4 percent from 1.9 percent in September. The recovery rate is 98.32 percent.

Durga Puja is the most celebrated festival in Bengal and this was celebrated for 5 days this year, from 11th October – 16th October.

Mr Sukumar mukerjee (member of special committee set up for the pandemic) said that the coming two weeks would be crucial for Bengal. A few measures were taken by the Government but huge crowds had gathered at pandals for the Puja.

The government has increased the testing which had gone down during the festival.
