With the recent political developments in Afghanistan, the health system has been affected badly. WHO reported that the daily COVID testing has gone down. The vaccine administration has taken a dip too and it is estimated that more than a million doses could expire.

Afghanistan’s health system is on the brink of collapsing .Out of 37 COVID hospitals, 9 have already shut down. Prior to August 2.2 million people had been vaccinated.

WHO is emphasising the need for women to have an access to education and health facilities. With adecrease in female staff in the hospitals, female patients would hesitate to seek care.

WHO is planning to boost testing and roll out vaccination programs in approximately 16 provinces of Afghanistan.

Vaccinating 20 percent of the population by the end of this year was the target and WHO is aiming to achieve that.
