Covid 19 pandemic has changed so many things in our lives. The schools are shut and children are studying through the distance learning program. Due to this, kids are spending a lot of time on the laptops and phones. That’s why it’s become more important to restrict their screen time. The various health hazards of more screen time are less physical activity, weight gain etc.
Here are a few ways you can reduce the screen time for your children
- Be a good model for them
Often parents expect their children to not watch the screen , while they themselves are glued to their devices . So as parents we should all practice what we teach.
- Engage them in activities
Read out to them, give them a book to read, engage in some activity with them.
- No phone zone in the house
Family meals, family quality times should be phone free.
- Explore outdoor activities
Cycling, badminton, gardening, a nature trek etc are various things that you can do with them.
- Set up a timetable
Do not completely shut their screen time, instead restrict their time and motivate them to stick to a time table. This way they would have a more balanced and controlled routine.
- Keep your phones away
Keep your charging stations away from children. When not in use, do not put your devices anywhere near children. This way they would not pick up the gadgets every now and then.
